Almost every year, Panasonic releases some exciting new shavers exclusively on the Japanese domestic market.
These frequent updates are in stark contrast with the global models that are available to the rest of the world and almost never get updated.
For example, the current best-selling Panasonic 5-blade shaver in the USA (the ES-LV65-S) was released more than 14 years ago.
That said, many of the new Japanese models only bring incremental updates, oftentimes in the form of new colors or slightly tweaked foils.
However, Panasonic Arc 5 generation 4 seems to be different.
This generation is called Lamdash PRO 5 in Japan, ARC 5 PRO in the USA and Series 900 PRO in several other countries and it was first launched in 2024.
There’s also a 2025 revision that didn’t bring anything at all, so the shavers remained exactly the same.
There are a few intriguing and possibly significant updates and in this article I will go over the most important ones.
UPDATE 1 (April 2025): The shavers are now available in Australia and Hong Kong as well. Hopefully more countries will follow.
UPDATE 2 (May 2026): The new models have finally been released in the USA under the Arc 5 PRO name. Two models are available, ES-L550WS and ES-L580WS (includes a cleaning station). You can check out my ARC 5 PRO Review as well.
Quick overview
Panasonic’s 5-blade shavers, also known as the Arc 5 or the Series 900, have been around for many years and some of the older generations are still available.
The new generation represents a significant departure from the previous 2023 Lamdash Pro 5.
In fact, I think we can even call the 2024 Lamdash Pro 5 a Generation 4 instead of a new revision of the Generation 3.
Let’s check out the most important changes.
New design
All Panasonic 5-blade shavers (Lamdash 5/Arc 5/Series 900) have looked pretty much the same since 2017 when the revision C of the Generation 3 was introduced.
Every subsequent year, there would be new colors or very small design tweaks, but you really couldn’t tell a new shaver from an older model.
With the new Lamdash PRO 5, however, that is no longer the case.
Here’s an image of the Generation 3 and Generation 4 Lamdash PRO 5 side by side:
As you can see, the new one has a different design but still looks familiar.
And that’s because it now looks exactly like the flagship Lamdash Pro 6 (aka Arc 6 or Series 900+):
And as you’ll see next, the similarities don’t stop there.
Personal note: While the new design looks more modern and minimalist, I think it also exhibits a couple of quirks.
For example, the textured thumb rest area above the power button is gone.
Also, there’s no room for a more advanced, feature-rich display, able to show more complex info, like the shave duration.
The new models only get basic, LED-backlit icons and a 3-level battery indicator.
New foil
The most important change is in my opinion related to the new foil.
This is a crucial component that probably has the biggest impact on the performance of a foil razor.
Until now, all Generation 3 Arc 5/Lamdash 5 featured an outer foil with three specific features:
- Four foil elements (for cutting hairs at skin level) and one middle slit trimmer (for catching longer, flat-lying hairs)
- Two comfort rollers that prevented the user from applying excessive pressure and made the head glide easier on the skin
- Two blades were removable, while the other three integrated into the foil itself.
You can see a close-up of that shaving system below:
With the new Lamdash PRO 5/ARC 5 PRO, Panasonic altered precisely these three distinctive features.
As you can see in the image below, we now have the following:
- Three foil elements (instead of two) and two slit trimmers (instead of one)
- The two comfort rollers are completely gone
- All 5 blades are integrated into the foil block itself (like the Arc 6 foil head)
According to Panasonic, the pattern of the holes in the foils are new and allow them to be up to 50% more effective than the Generation 2 foils (that come with shavers like the ES-LV65 or ES-LV67).
These changes are in my opinion noteworthy and I’m very eager to buy and test the new shavers.
As I mentioned earlier, this new Lamdash Pro 5 generation also seems to borrow some features from the range-topping Arc 6/Lamdash 6.
For example, the two gold slit trimmers are the same ones found on the 6-blade Arc 6/Lamdash 6:
Panasonic probably did this in an effort to improve the shaver’s performance when cutting longer, flat-lying hairs.
The 5-blade Panasonic shavers were never particularly effective in that scenario and only worked optimally on short stubble.
But in my opinion this won’t make a huge difference as the Arc 6 is also not particularly impressive on longer hairs (although it is somewhat better).
The most intriguing part about the new Lamdash Pro 5 foil head is however the lack of the two comfort rollers.
Panasonic therefore decided to revert to the old, first generation foil in this regard.
Dropping the rollers probably came as a result of some users complaining that the rollers got in their way and couldn’t achieve the same closeness.
Speaking of closeness, the new foils are supposedly even thinner than before, allowing the blade to cut the hair even closer to the skin.
I personally didn’t have an issue with the rollers on the previous generations, so hopefully these new foils don’t compromise on the comfort part.
This new foil (part number ES9510) will not be backward compatible with any of the older Arc 5/Lamdash 5 shavers.
As mentioned earlier, all the blades are now integrated into the foil block, while all of the previous Arc 5/Lamdash 5 models had two removable blades (separate from the foil).

USB-C charging
One of the most user requested features is finally here.
With the new 2024 Lamdash Pro 5, Panasonic has ditched their proprietary charging port in favor of the ubiquitous USB-C.
This means you won’t depend anymore on a Panasonic charger or a special Panasonic-to-USB cable.
You’ll be able to charge your Panasonic Lamdash 5 using your phone’s charger which is very convenient.
However, not all of the models will feature USB-C charging; only the ES-L580U and ES-L550U variations will get it, while the rest of the shavers will come with a Panasonic port and AC adapter.
As a side note, you will be able to charge and use these shavers anywhere in the world.
The Panasonic AC charger features a universal voltage adapter (100-240V), so you can buy a Japan-exclusive shaver without any worries.
The USA models that were launched 2 years later, namely the ES-L550WS and ES-L580WS do not have a USB-C port.
That is a bummer and a very odd decision.
Misc features
Everything else about this latest Arc 5 PRO/Lamdash 5 PRO series seems to be more or less the same as before.
All the models are fitted with fast 14 000 CPM linear-drive motors just like any of the previous generations.
There will also be models available with or without an automatic cleaning station.
The stations appear to be similar in design and function to the older ones and use the same concentrated detergent packs.
The shavers that come without a station will not work with one.
The battery level indicator now only has 3 levels, which is disappointing for a shaver in this price range.
For comparison, the old ES-LV65 shows the battery charge in 10% increments and also displays the shave duration.

There are 5 new models in this latest generation.
As you can tell from the table, Panasonic Japan continues to offer variations that are cordless-only (for wet/dry use) but also corded&cordless (for dry-only use).
All of them are however IPX7 waterproof and can be safely cleaned with tap water (with the cord disconnected of course).
In Europe and the USA, all Panasonic shavers are only available as cordless-only models.
It’s the same with the two USA models currently available, the ES-L550WS and ES-L580WS.
These will only work cordless.
The performance is identical throughout the entire Lamdash PRO 5/ARC 5 PRO range, so choosing one should come down to what features you need.
For example, the inclusion of a cleaning station, USB-C charging or corded&cordless use.
All the models have the same 5D flexible head and a pop-up hair trimmer.
Takeaway — is it actually better than the previous models?
Considering the new features of the Lamdash PRO 5, I think it’s the first time in a long while that we can expect some actual performance differences vs the old generations.
The closeness could be even better than before with the new thinner foils.
I am however a bit concerned about the comfort — the old Arc 5 models (with no comfort rollers) were a bit aggressive during a dry shave.
We’ll see if Panasonic managed to mitigate that and still improve the closeness.
Also, with two slit trimmers instead of one, shaving a longer beard (3 days +) could be more effective, but again I’m not expecting anything spectacular in that regard.
The Panasonic Lamdash PRO 5 first became available in September 2024 in Japan.
After that, more countries followed, including the USA (2026).

I had an ES-LV9Q for the last 4 years and was overall very happy with it. However, in the last couple of the cleaning station pump stopped workimg, and shaver motor started making strange noises and quality of the shave suffered, despite changing the blades and foil.. So on a recent trip to Japan I pulled the trigger and bought the ES-L580U unit. My impressions after a week of use:
Pros:
*USB charging port!!!
*quality of the shave seems better (could be placebo effect though..)
*the body is a bit longer and you get a better grip of the unit.
*trimmer does even better job
*Cleaning station is more quiet
Cons:
*Plastic! No premium feel at all. It gives a toy-like impression
*While shaving, dust falls off, similar to braun 9 series. (Not wife friendly :)
*indicators are basic…
Overall happy with it, but for the price, I’d lome a bit more shine…

Going from the LV9Q to any of the newer Arc 5 revisions will feel like a downgrade in terms of build quality. Panasonic was the last large manufacturer to make these compromises but it finally happened (no more metal bodies, rudimentary battery indicators, fewer accessories).
Some of the improvements will be just the result of using a brand new shaver with sharp, unworn foils (and trimmer); in times things will start to rattle a bit and get noisier. Foil shavers are particularly messy and can’t contain the fine hairs as effectively as rotaries.
I’m still waiting for my unit to be shipped by the forwarding company from a warehouse in Japan, really looking forward to trying it.

If your shaver has a cleaning station I think it’s the ES-LV95, identical to the ES-LV65 otherwise. I still need to test the 2024 model, but I am pretty sure it’ll be at least as good as the previous Arc 5 generations.

The official Philips UK website recommends soaking the blades in water with baking soda for between 20 and 60 minutes. I soaked the Braun Series 9 cassette in water and baking soda, then rinsed it well with running water, and after it dried completely, I lubricated it with mineral oil, and the shave was great. Have you tried that?

I did try it (and also soaking in warm soapy water) with my Panasonic foil and blades (I usually shave wet with my Panasonic razors and in time there will be some stubborn dirt and hardened lather in the nooks and crannies).
This method does work really well and in my opinion it’s worth doing every once in a while. It’s probably overkill if you clean the shaver after every use though (with water or water and soap).

Are there any merit to having cleaning station if you do it yourself manually? I assume doing it manually is also cleaner as well? Assuming you do it properly.
Objectively, Panasonic stations are the best. They have the most effective drying system (inductive + air drying), are very compact and well built and exhibit fewer specific problems (clogging etc.). That said, they are not really necessary and aren’t as practical as Braun stations that use resealable cartridges.
You can clean a Panasonic shaver with water and soap very effectively. In fact, I always recommend buying the variations that don’t include the station as they also cost a lot less. I even stopped using the Panasonic stations I already have and just clean the shavers myself.

I got my ES L580U. I have used it for just a few days. It might be a little closer than my old LV95, but maybe it just has new blades. It is hard to say, but it did get at least as close with fewer passes. About the same amount of comfort. I will let my beard grow over the weekend and see how it is with a longer beard. It is better than my old one, but not a huge jump.

Those are some excellent observations.
1. I would have to say the 2024 Lamdash Pro 6 by the slightest of margins. It just feels like a more refined, gentler shaver and it also makes less noise. But it’s incredibly comfortable which in turn allows me to get a slightly closer shaver by pressing a bit more, especially on areas with thicker stubble (below the nose and on the chin in my case).
2. The 2024 Lamdash Pro 5 head (it’s a single foil head piece, so no removable blades) is not compatible with the previous Arc 5 models. However, I am 100% certain that Panasonic will continue to manufacture the foil+blades sets for the older Arc 5 for many years to come. All the Arc 5 models available in North America and Europe use them and Panasonic sells a lot of them. It’ll be a while until Panasonic will release the newest Lamdash 5 outside of Japan and I’m sure those will sell alongside the older ones.
3. I will have to go with Panasonic here as well, the closeness is just better. The Braun S9 PRO+ has other pros (very effective with longer, flat-lying hairs on the neck, very manageable slim head), but the latest Lamdash 6 can cut the hair closer to the skin.

But now, I feel that you didn’t like it very much: ” it’s not as quiet as the Arc 6 because the blades vibrate more and the motor ramps up abruptly….”

The price for the replacement foil head of the Lamdash 5 is likely to be lower and the shaver itself costs less, so it’s definitely better in terms of overall costs.
Regarding my assessment, please note that the differences are not massive but I have to point out every aspect so a potential buyer can make an informed decision. I do like it a lot and I think it’s the best 5-blade Panasonic I’ve ever used. In terms of ergonomics is also better than the Lamdash 6. That said, the Lamdash 6 does feel more refined and a bit more forgiving when you press too hard.
I will certainly do a full review as well.

No cleaning station, no flexible head, no trimmer, not really any ergonomics, and about $140 more (Amazon) than a conventional bare-bones Arc 5. And more even than an Arc 5 kit including a cleaning station. Presumably for those that don’t have an extra couple of inches to spare in their car or luggage for a full-sized shaver. Strange marketing direction….
Right on, Allan. It’s really difficult to find enough compelling reasons to buy one. A compact form factor and USB charging just aren’t enough. The price and lack of a trimmer are reason enough (at least for me) not to recommend it. I do understand that a small form factor comes with additional challenges in terms of engineering (powerful small ultrabooks for example are more expensive than full-size laptops) but it’s just too much.
I still have an ES-CV51 compact Arc 5 with a more conventional design (and a hair trimmer) and even though it has a fixed head, the performance is great. It was quite pricey at the time, but still costed a lot less than the current Palm models.

Yep (CV70 in the US). Still my go-to travel shaver – great ergonomics, flexible head, trimmer. And mine works corded (and I have a USB A/Panasonic charging cord). For about $70 less, currently. Baffling, but I suppose I can see the attraction for a young demographic who put a premium on “cute.” For $100 this would be an acceptable travel shaver if you just wanted a DOPP kit to throw in your luggage, but it looks like it might take as much space as the CV70.
Addendum – been so long since I traveled it inspired me to check! No corded operation (my earlier Panny does), and no flex in the head – otherwise a perfect travel shaver, and I think I paid a lot less than 200 bucks…
As a side note, there is a 3-blade variation (ES-CM3A) with a 13000 CPM motor, so essentially a pebble-like Arc 3. I’d say it’s somewhat more reasonable at around $100, but otherwise exhibits the same shortcomings as the 5-blade shaver.

Thank you for your detailed newsletter, it has been an invaluable source of information for me in deciding on which shaver to buy to replace a Braun Series 7-360 that I bought in 2022 which replaced the older (better) Series 7, that I still have as a backup. The 2022 is showing more decline in 2.5 years than the older one showed in about 7 years.
After rejecting the Braun Series 9 due to price and a similar design to the old Series 7 (lack of innovation and a steep cost) and wanting to stay away from rotary shavers, found your website when I started to research Panasonic, an unfamiliar shaver to me.
Appreciate the very detailed comparison and clear explanation of your reviews. Ordered a ES-L550U thru a Japanese seller on eBay. After comparing costs on Amazon.co.jp and shipping thru Forward2Me decided that the EBay cost would be between $20 – $30 over directly ordering from Japan. My estimate included cheapest item cost, probable customs, and delivery, but not insurance, which I would get if ordering directly, but judged too time consuming to find out and not likely to be expensive.
Using current cost on eBay or Amazon.co.jp the cost of the new Gen 4 is not that much more than current cost of ES65-S or ES67-K on Amazon and far less than a Braun Series 9. Would not get another Braun Series 7-360.
Should arrive between 1 to 2 weeks and have a 30 day return window. Looking forward to trying it.

It’s important to note that the ES-L550U and ES-L550D models that don’t come with a station will not work with any Panasonic cleaning station.
The ones that do include the station (ES-L580U, ES-L570W and ES-L570D) might work with yours if they physically fit in it and the 3 studs on the back of the shaver line up with the three contacts on your station. The cleaning chamber is different, so they might not fit properly.

Update: Rec’d my new ES-L550U today, FedEx 2 days after it was shipped (included in purchase price). Charged it and had my first shave with it.
First impressions: Smoother, more comfortable shave than my Braun 7-360. Seems closer shaving already. Expect that it will be even better when the blades break in and my face gets used to the new shaver. Easy soap and water wash after use, pat-dry and blowing out water with compressed air. When fully dry will lube the head with the enclosed lube. Probably won’t use soap after every shave. Like the usb-c charging. Seems slightly quieter than the Braun 7-360, but they vibrate at a different pitch, the Braun being a deeper hum and the ES-L550U more a medium, quieter hum. The only glitch, a very minor one, was that my thumb shifted and turned off the shaver twice. Would have been nice to have a textured thumb-rest, but I’ll get used to the grip, or add a small piece of grip tape for the thumb.

The station connects via a Panasonic charger which is included in the package. You will only need a basic EU plug adapter as the Japan plug is different. The charger can take any voltage, so you don’t need to worry about that, it will work perfectly outside Japan.

Thank you so much for the very helpful information. I am in the USA and just got sick of replacing and repairing the Braun Series 9. Currently having 2 Series 9s that I rotate week by week and they last about 2 years before requiring repair. I mistakenly sent the S9 Pro for repair recently just after the warranty expired and it cost $180. The shaver is not working properly after less than a month and may be due to water sealing since it works again after leaving it alone for about 2 days (I shave in the shower). I suspect the repairer did not seal the unit properly but I am sick of the brand and want to try Panasonic. The other Series 9 still works but has already been sent in for repair twice. Also, the first cleaning station malfunctioned by spraying out cleaning solution past the inserted shaver onto the sink. The replacement is still working fine.
After reading your reviews on the latest Panasonic Arc 5 shavers, I just ordered the Japan only ES-L580U from Ebay. What is the difference between the 580, 550 and 570 models? Can latest generation cleaning stations be ordered separately from the shaver? Because the Brauns have been so unreliable, I feel the need to get another cleaning station just in case. If the shaver performs, I’ll get another.

The 550 and 570 models don’t come with a cleaning station and won’t work with one as they lack the three contact pins that connect them to the station. Apart from that, there are differences between all of them with regards to the included accessories, wet&dry vs dry-only use, USB-C ports or Panasonic charging ports. In the article above you will find a table depicting all these differences.
I think the station will eventually be available as a separate purchase.

Yes, the station also charges the shaver and can even dry it without going through a cleaning cycle first, something the Braun station can’t do.
No such tests have been made to my knowledge, so we can only rely on anecdotal findings from different users. In that regard, water ingress can happen with any shaver brand at any price point, so I usually recommend against using the shaver in a hot shower for example. A wet/dry shaver is (in my view) a shaver you can safely clean with water or use with shaving cream/gel. But I would avoid shaving in the shower or submerging the shaver in water just to be safe.

Certainly — I’d say the latest generation shaves closer but the improvement to comfort is even more noticeable. The second Arc 5 generation already shaved very close, and if you’re mainly interested in that and you don’t have sensitive skin, the older Arc 5 is still a very compelling option, especially at that price.

It is noticeably gentler vs the older gen 2 shavers (like the ES-LV65 and ES-LV67) and I’d say it shaves a bit closer too. The 5 cutters are closer together, so the overall size of the head is reduced.
Since it’s a Japanese model, the instructions are only available in Japanese I’m afraid. I did use Google Lens for on the fly translation.

which shaver would you buy the lv65 for 115 dollars or a new 550u for 215 dollars
In terms of value for money, the LV65 is unbeatable and if you don’t have sensitive skin, I think it just makes more sense to buy it over the 550u.
The newer 550u is gentler which is why I think I’m also able to get a slightly closer shave (I have dry/sensitive skin especially on my neck). But again if you don’t have that problem, the LV65 will probably be just as good.

Getting a ES-L550U from Ebay in Japan, since my face feels a little sandpapery a few hours after I use my Braun 3040s. I’ll try to translate the manual, but is lubrication the same with the all in one cartridges used by the gen 4?

I would have to give the edge to the Lamdash 6 — it’s ever so slightly gentler, more refined and just feels incredibly smooth on the skin. It’s not by any means a huge difference — and even less so in the case of a wet shave — but objectively, the Lamdash 6 is ahead. If price and the larger head are not an issue, it is the one to get.

I think you may need a bit more time to get used to it and try a few tweaks. I find it to be one of the closest shaving razors out there, so there’s probably room for improvement.
I get the closest shave when I shave wet — here is a post with a few useful tip. But even a dry shave should be satisfactory, especially with a pre-shave lotion.
When shaving below the nose, one thing I’ve found to be effective is using short, fast strokes (up and down) and even a bit more pressure if that doesn’t cause any discomfort. You should of course always go against the direction of hair growth. Also, (Panasonic) foil shavers work best on short facial hair.

I doubt the ES-LV67 will be noticeably more comfortable than your FX3.
The 2024 model is clearly better in that regard. Right now the best option to buy one is from Amazon.co.jp as a global launch may not even happen.
Alternatively, the Braun Series 9 (Pro, PRO+) is the most comfortable I’ve used so far as a head shaver. I would still say the closeness is very good, but again the Arc 5 will be slightly ahead.

I am still a bit skeptical about an official US release, but you can never know. For example, the 2024 Lamdash Pro 5 (and Pro 6) were recently launched in Australia, so that’s definitely a positive sign. But so far no news of a launch in the USA or Europe.

Hi ovidiu, i am new to electric shaver. I am considering getting either ES-LVG8-K (US$132) vs ES-L550U-S (US$144) vs ES-LV5W-K (US$169) directly from amazon.jp. While the 2024 model (ES-L550U-S) has the new blades but i am not sure if it is worth the higher cost for replacement blade vs the older models. Which one would u recommend me to buy. Apart from that i am wondering in you know if i buy direct from japan (i m from singapore), can all the models work internationally? Thanks in advance.

Here are a few things about those three models that will hopefully help you decide.
– the ES-LVG8-K is the least comfortable out of the box since it comes with the very first generation foils (it does still shave very close, just like the other ones). But you will be able to upgrade the foil to the one used by the ES-LV5W-K. If you have sensitive skin, it might be a bit too aggressive during a dry shave.
– the ES-LV5W-K is a bit more comfortable thanks to that tweaked foil, but other than that, it is very similar to the ES-LVG8-K performance-wise. The cost of ownership will be the same.
– the ES-L550U-S is to me a bit gentler than the ES-LV5W-K, a bit easier to use thanks to the smaller head (the 5 cutters are closer together) and I really like the USB-C charging port.
Personally, I would get the ES-L550U-S for the reasons outlined above, but if those don’t matter too much and you’d rather save some money, than any of the other two would be fine. The newest foil of the ES-L550U-S is still pricey and more difficult to source and it’s the only one that will work on it, no other alternative currently. Things might get better if Panasonic decides to release the Pro 5 globally (it was recently launched in Australia for example).
You won’t have any issues with international use. The Panasonic charger takes between 100 and 240 volts (ES-LVG8-K and ES-LV5W-K) while the ES-L550U-S uses USB-C and you can plug it into any USB-A charger/outlet.

Yes, the Arc 5 has a similar charging time. Both are fitted with the same battery and the charging speed is capped regardless of the charger you’re using.
The only alternative would be to buy one of the 2024 models, be it the Arc 6 or the Arc 5, that comes with the Panasonic port and charger, so nu USB-C. Those shavers charge in less than one hour.

But definitely faster charging time is better for me, in case I forget to charge it and need it very soon. I also wonder if they’re going to release a new arc 5 revision for 2025? You are very welcome. Difficult to say, rather unlikely though; but my guess is that even if they do come up with a new revision for the Arc 5, it will most likely be a minor one, with no real changes (same foil head, motor, features etc.), but maybe a few different colors or minor tweaks. And even if there is a revision of the foil head, it will be backward compatible.
Personally, I would consider an Arc 5 with a Panasonic port only if I wanted to take advantage of the corded&cordless operation. I think the lengthier charging time of the USB models won’t be an issue and since you probably already have a USB-C cable at hand all the time, you are more likely to charge your shaver often — that’s been my experience so far. Before that I had to grab a Panasonic charger from a drawer, plug it into a socket and charge the shaver — and I always forgot to do that and always charged the shaver when the battery was almost depleted.

I did, and will be posting an update on those 2025 models as well very soon. They appear to be part of the usual Panasonic late summer/early fall refresh and from what I can tell they are exactly the same as last year’s models like your L580U. They come with the same foil head (ES9510) and I’m pretty sure they don’t offer any improvements whatsoever.
Regarding the the Lamdash Pro 6, it will physically fit in your Pro 5 station. However, you will still need to buy a Lamdash Pro 6 that comes with a station as the ones that don’t lack the contact pins on the back and won’t work with any station.

Yes, but only the wet/dry cordless-only models have it (ie ES-L580U, ES-L570W, ES-L550U). The bubble-making mode is not intended for manual cleaning, but rather for lathering shaving cream. During manual cleaning it’s not really any different than running the shaver in normal mode as both will splash water when rinsing the shaver under the tap.
The sonic cleaning mode is the dedicated cleaning mode and it’s only featured on the dry-only cordless/corded models (ES-L570D, ES-L550D).
Both the bubble-making mode and the sonic cleaning are activated by pressing and holding the power button. In my opinion the latter is more useful in practice.

I have an ES-L580U on the way from Japan.
The only question I have for now is about the cleaning station. Once you have mixed water with their detergent packet, do you leave it alone until you are ready to dump it out and start the mixing process over again? I thought I read somewhere that it is a good idea to add more water as the mixture draws down. But wouldn’t that dilute the cleaning mixture?
You are very welcome. Yes, you should just leave it alone. Adding more water will dilute the solution and also increase the likelihood of bacteria growth which tends to happen more often with Panasonic stations anyway since it’s just a detergent-based solution. Braun for example uses alcohol and Philips a Phenoxyethanol which is antimicrobial.
When replacing the solution you should also wash the container and filter before adding the new one.

Panasonic markets all their shavers that work cordless and corded as dry-only because this poses a significant safety concern should someone shave wet with the cord plugged in. The shavers are however still waterproof, same as the wet/dry cordless-only models.

I use the ES-LV95 for about 2 years, and I like its closeness and how easy it is to maintain.
The only inconvenience is the tingling and irritation on my neck after shaving (even though I try to shave every other day). Speick pre-electric and some aftershave helps, but still leaves something to be desired.
I’m thinking of buying the ES-L570D – but I’m afraid – would it be more aggressive?
I’m concerned about the two new trimmers. As I understand, you bought the Lamdash 5 2024 – could your share your experience?

The Lamdash Pro 5 2024 is easily the most comfortable Arc 5 I’ve used so far. In my case it is noticeable gentler than the ES-LV95 or any Arc 5 that uses the same foil as the ES-LV95. The closeness is still at least as good.
One of the more significant changes is indeed the switch to two trimmers and three foil elements instead of the old 1+4 setup. They did that in an effort to improve the performance with long and flat-lying hairs. And it is better than the older Arc5s in that regard, but still not as good as a Braun Series 9 or even the Series 8 (which is a 3-blade shaver).
So normally you should notice an improvement and get less irritation if you decide to get the L570D.

My incredible Braun 9295cc is near to giving out after ~8 years of continuous use. I dry shave six days a week and give my skin a break one weekend day. After so many years and reading so much about the Panasonic line here, I am debating whether to reinvest in the new Braun 9610s or switch over to the Panasonic ES-L550U. It is a case of the stick with the familiar and great or try the other one that is equally praised. Thanks in advance Ovidiu.

Your trusty Braun has served you well.
In my opinion you cannot go wrong with either of the two, though both exhibit their own pros and cons. Here are a few thoughts on them that will hopefully help you decide:
– The 9610s will feel familiar, but more refined, quieter and faster than your current shaver — but mostly because there’s no wear. Also, the new 96M cassette shaves closer than the previous S9 heads. Please note that the 9610s will not work with your current cleaning station
– The Panasonic ES-L550U will provide a slightly closer shave than the Braun. That said, if your hair is not very coarse or you’re not very demanding in that regard, it won’t be a noticeable improvement
– Even though the ES-L550U has a smaller head than all the 5-blade Panasonic shavers from previous generations, it still feels a bit wonky compared to the Braun. Also, the simple swivel of the Braun head is in my opinion more useful
– The Braun is more conforming when shaving the neck/jawline and the individual blades move smoother
– The hair trimmer on the ES-L550U is vastly superior. If you use it regularly to trim/shape your sideburns, it will be a substantial upgrade
– You get USB-C with the Panasonic which is a very underrated feature in my opinion
– At the moment, getting new replacement heads for the new Lamdash Pro 5 is still more complicated, you would probably need to import it. Things can (hopefully) change in that regard
– Braun is generally better in terms of battery life an battery longevity. But this is more of an anecdote
The 9610s would be the safe option and you’ll probably like the shaver a lot. If the pros of the ES-L550U sound very appealing (closer shave, very fast and powerful motor, excellent trimmer, USB-C charging), then it’s probably worth the risk of trying a different brand.

Having bought an ES-L550U on my last trip to Japan to replace my old Arc-5 (65, which I bought on your recommendation as well, nearly half a decade ago), here are my early thoughts;
The Good
1. The new head is much improved over the old one with the rollers; shaving takes less time and feels less finicky overall.
2. Don’t know what they did, but the shaver doesn’t feel as warm as the old model. Might be due to the faster shaving time, or maybe just age.
3. No inner blades makes the cleaning process simpler.
4. I do like the look and two-toned plastic body.
5. USB-C charging.
The Bad
1. The “display”. No information whatsoever.
2. Drawstring bag for storage. The new shaver is just big enough it won’t fit in the old bag, so I’m stuck with it.
3. Single button for everything; I hate accidentally turning the shaver on when trying to activate travel lock.

Thank you for the comment. Those are some excellent observations and I fully agree with you on the cons, unfortunately Panasonic clearly intended to cut production costs. Physical travel locks, more feature-rich led displays, grippy thumb rests or a decent travel bag, all of these cost more and the new models are a bit of a letdown in that regard. But at least the performance got better.

Never really got to write the review I’m afraid. But I have been using the shaver constantly for almost a year. In short, this model is the most comfortable and closest-shaving Arc 5 yet and the overall performance is very close to that of the latest Arc 6. The head is smaller than before as well, which helps with making the shaver more manageable. I would still use it on a 2-3 days beard at most as it works best on short stubble. It’s an ideal option if you shave often.
I would definitely get one of the models that have a USB-C port, it’s the most underrated feature you can get on an electric shaver in my opinion. I just wouldn’t go back to using Panasonic wired chargers again.

For anyone who has imported ES-L550U into the USA from either eBay or Amazon.co.jp:
What was the tariff amount?
I realized when looking on eBay that they list the final amount after import fees. And Amazon.co.jp is not shipping the L550U to the USA at this time. So I answered my own question regarding the import.
So I am trying to decide between:
ARC 5 ES-LV65-S for $130
Braun 9465cc $265
ES-L550U $250
I don’t have very thick facial hair, and only shave a few times per week. I got a remarkable 17 years out of my Braun 5671! It still works great, but the long hair trimmer mechanism just broke and understandably they don’t sell replacement part to repair it. So I am OK to spend the money for a quality product that will last me 10+ years.
The Braun 9465cc would be the safe pick and the transition should be seamless. If you shave less often (like twice a week for example) or have flat-lying hairs, this one would be the best option. One word of caution, the hair trimmer on current Braun shavers are slide-out trimmers, different than the one on your Series 7, so you may (or may not) like it. The cleaning station is practical and effective, even though it uses a fan instead of induction heat for drying.
The ES-LV65 offers probably the best value for money of all the shavers out there, it cuts the hair a bit closer than the Braun and it’s ideal for short coarse stubble and frequent use. The pop-up trimmer is better and the shaver also has some nifty features: you can disable the beard density sensor and shave in full power mode (won’t make a huge difference though), it has a physical travel lock (less finicky and more intuitive) and a feature-rich display (it shows battery in 10% increments and also the duration of the shave). It is more aggressive than both the Braun and the ES-L550U (can be an issue if you have sensitive skin) and the head is really large.
The ES-L550U is a more refined Arc 5, with a smaller head than the ES-LV65, it’s more comfortable and shaves at least as close. It still works best on short stubble, so you would need to shave more often. Same excellent hair trimmer plus USB-C charging, highly underrated in my opinion.
All three are great shavers, but it comes down to what matters more to you and also your budget.

I was very close to doing the ES-L550U import from eBay. I wanted to try a made in Japan Panasonic offering.
I ended up with the 9350cc Sport from Costco
There is a $50 promo running on that, so it was $200 (plus $10 shipping + CA sales tax). So for $226 total I went for it.
Otherwise I was looking at $285 after tax for the 9465cc from Amazon. Thanks to your reviews I could understand there is not any appreciable difference between models. I can always “upgrade” to the latest head down the line when it’s time to change it out.
You are very welcome. That’s an excellent deal and the 9350cc is essentially a 94xx despite the name. And you can later on even upgrade the head to the latest 96M cassette, by then it should be readily available and more reasonably priced.

I ended up returning the Series 9 I was not that impressed with it, especially coming from my almost 20 year old Braun 5671 I found the Series 9 more comfortable but actually did worse on the flat-lying hairs around my neck.
I am really like the Panasonic so far! I also got a Panasonic toothbrush from easygo that I like a lot as well :)

They are very similar, Panasonic has come a long way and the latest Arc 6 (and even the Arc 5) are now adequately comfortable as well. They are still way behind Braun when it comes to shaving longer stubble (4 days+), but the comfort is definitely comparable.

With the newest Arc 5 and Arc 6 models, Panasonic has indeed switched to a Braun-style shaving head, with everything encapsulated into a single piece. However, I haven’t found this to have any serious implications when cleaning the head manually vs the previous design with the two removable blades. The ES-L550U is a wet/dry model, so unfortunately it features the Bubble making mode instead of the more useful Sonic cleaning mode. This means that while you’re cleaning and rinsing the head, it will splash some water around as it’s not a dedicated cleaning mode. But if you clean the shaver after every use, there won’t be any problems with hardened dirt or anything like that.
Only the dry-only models, like the ES-L570D and ES-L550D, come with the Sonic cleaning mode. Those are still fully waterproof and can be safely rinsed with water (with the cord unplugged, of course).

I’ve had the L580U for a year now and considering going with the L690U and not replacing the Foil on my L580U, putting the money into the “fancier” model.

I strongly doubt it, to be honest, as the premium features of the L690U are some of the main selling points of the more expensive Lamdash Pro 6 line. If those trickle down to the 5-blade shavers, then there’ll be fewer reasons for someone to buy the Lamdash Pro 6 instead of a more affordable Lamdash Pro 5. The line is already blurred with the performance of the Lamdash Pro 5 being now so close to the Lamdash Pro 6.

The only place I can find a 2024 ARC5 PRO Men’s 5-Blade Electric Razor
SKU: ES-L550WS is at Panasonic itself $260.
That said they have no Replacement Foil/Blade one-piece ES9510 listed for sale. Amazon has one, but it’s not a Panasonic, it a Oulice brand at $120.

At least for now, importing the head from Japan is still probably the only option (via eBay or Amazon.co.uk). The Arc 5 PRO has been available in the USA for only a short while, so it is possible that the ES9510 will be available in the future. I would strongly suggest buying the original Panasonic part.

Thoughts on the Pro (USA) vs the Braun 96XX on a neck/jaw line shave? With the charging stations, both are about the same price.
I have only ever used Braun and my OG series 7 does take a lot of passes and pressure to get my neck smooth.

I would still give the Braun the edge, it’s a lot more compliant. The ARC 5 PRO (currently writing the review) has a very complex flexing head but it’s just not as effective and the cutters themselves are a lot more conforming on the 96xx. It should be a smooth(er) transition from you Series 7.

Do any of you know where I can buy the new foil for the Lamdash PRO 5 (ARC 5 PRO), how much it costs and if it lasts longer then the Arc3 foil (I imagine it does because each blade is cutting less hairs per shave).
I ask because I am okay paying $250 for the new shaver, but need to evaluate the recurring cost vs an ARC3 shaver, which is the one I own.

Right now Japan is pretty much the only option (Amazon.co.jp or directly from Panasonic Japan, although they don’t always ship overseas).
The part should become available in the USA sooner than later. It should last more than the Arc 3 foils and blades, though the improvement isn’t linear. In other words, the Arc 5 does have 66% more blades, but they probably won’t last 66% more. But the shave is superior in every way.
For the last few years, Panasonic replacement parts have been quite pricey, usually more expensive compared to the corresponding Braun models. In this case, a Braun Series 9 PRO+ head will probably cost less.
