Following the success of the original OneBlade trimmers, Philips expanded the lineup with the OneBlade Intimate variation.

The Intimate is a compact body hair groomer for both men and women, and it quickly became a best-seller in its category.

The main advantage over most similar products, including the existing OneBlade models, is the price.

The Philips Norelco OneBlade Intimate undercuts them by a significant margin.

But is it actually any good?

I’ve been using one for more than a year, and in this review I’ll share everything you need to know, including whether the OneBlade Intimate is worth buying.

I’ll also compare it to other similar trimmers from Philips and the competition and look at a few (better) alternatives.

The OneBlade Intimate: What exactly is it?

The Philips Norelco OneBlade Intimate.

The highly popular OneBlade trimmers made their debut around 10 years ago.

Since then, there have been many hybrid iterations, suitable for both facial and body hair.

The new Intimate is a smaller, lighter, thinner OneBlade that also costs less, and it’s marketed exclusively as a body hair groomer for men and women.

OneBlade Intimate vs OneBlade.
The Intimate and non-Intimate OneBlade.

Also, it comes with a so-called Skin Protect Blade head.

This is essentially the standard OneBlade head used by all the models, but has a special plastic guard attachment (Skin Protect) that prevents nicks when trimming sensitive parts (pubic area, armpits).

The OneBlade Intimate with the Skin Protect guard (on and off).
The OneBlade Intimate with the Skin Protect guard (on and off).

As such, this Skin Protect head fits other OneBlade models, so if you already own one, you could simply buy the Skin Protect replacement head and use it for body hair.

And as you’ll see later on, that might actually be the better option.

Takeaway: the OneBlade Intimate is just a more compact trimmer with a slightly tweaked head that is also compatible with many other OneBlade handles.

Features overview

Here’s a quick rundown of the Philips OneBlade Intimate features:

  • Dual-blade head with rounded teeth
  • IPX7 waterproof
  • 30 mins of cordless-only use from a NiMh battery
  • USB-A charging (via a proprietary Philips cable)
  • Skin Protect blade for a close trim (suitable for the groin as well)

If I were to nitpick, the 30-minute runtime is not outstanding, and the trimmer still features a Philips port.

That means you’ll always have to use the provided cable, which has a Philips and a USB-A connector.

A charger is not included, but you can use any USB-A charger or wall socket.

Build quality and ergonomics

Having owned a few of the OneBlade body+face trimmers, the Norelco OneBlade Intimate is by far the lightest and the most compact model yet.

It weighs only 54g, and the body is very thin and extremely easy to grip and comfortable to use.

Gripping the Norelco OneBlade Intimate.

Unlike the other more expensive OneBlade trimmers, the Intimate doesn’t have any rubber sleeve, but it’s still fine.

The body is surprisingly sturdy and doesn’t feel flimsy at all.

The blade attachment on the other hand is the same as before, so that one does feel like it must be handled with care.

Luckily, the clip-on head cover is well thought out and will protect the blade effectively.

The head cover of the OneBlade Intimate.

But annoyingly, the cover won’t fit over the blade with the Skin Protect guard in place.

So you would need to remove it (which can be fiddly) and make sure you don’t lose it.

To fit the 3mm guard, you must also take out the small Skin Protect guard from the blade.

The Philips OneBlade Intimate with the 3mm guard.

Using the OneBlade Intimate is effortless, and even though the other OneBlade models weren’t in any way cumbersome, this one is in its own league.

It’s essentially like holding a pen in your hand, and coming from the hefty Philips Body Groomer 7000, my trimmer of choice, it’s simply a joy to use.

The Body Groomer 7000 next to the OneBlade Intimate.

So from an ergonomics point of view, the Philips Norelco OneBlade Intimate is outstanding.

Performance

Let’s now see how the OneBlade Intimate performed in the real world.

I think it’s important to have realistic expectations because this is a small, affordable trimmer that can’t really compete with large, full-fledged trimmers like the Body Groomer models.

That said, I’ve been using quite a few other compact body hair groomers as well, so I will reference them when relevant.

Compact body hair trimmers.

When I first tried the OneBlade Intimate, the first thing that struck me was just how quiet the trimmer is.

For comparison’s sake, I grabbed a OneBlade face+body, and that one was clearly louder.

And while a quiet operation is nice, it can also be an indication that the motor is slower.

Unfortunately, that proved to be the case here as well.

Philips fitted the OneBlade Intimate with a slower motor than the one in the other OneBlade trimmers.

A slower motor will consume less battery and body hair is usually not as thick or coarse as facial hair, so in this case, it was probably the right compromise, at least in theory.

So let’s see how the Intimate performed in different situations.

Trimming pubic hair

When used on pubic hair, the OneBlade Intimate was very gentle, nimble and effortless to use.

That said, its lack of power was quite obvious as pubic hair is generally thicker than the hair on other body parts.

That basically means you’ll have to go a lot slower and use very short strokes for a clean and comfortable trim.

Otherwise, it will snag hairs and even cause tiny nicks.

I tried to push my luck, and it certainly wasn’t very forgiving.

The Skin Protect guard leaves the teeth exposed, so I don’t think it makes a huge difference vs using the blade without it.

The slow motor means the blades will shear against each other more slowly, increasing the chances of snagging hairs if you move the trimmer too fast.

Also, the longer the pubic hair, the more careful you’ll need to be.

The flat-lying hairs are particularly prone to getting yanked if you move the trimming head too quickly or lift it before stopping.

The closeness is pretty good, but it will still leave a very short stump (with the Skin Protect guard fitted to the blade).

That said, the guard still leaves the blade exposed, so the not so great closeness is a limitation of the OneBlade head in general.

It just can’t cut the hair quite at skin level as the larger, more capable trimmers can. Those usually feature a foil element flanked by the two blades:

The new and old Bodygroom 7000, respectively.
The new and old Bodygroom 7000, respectively.

But getting back to other compact groomers, the Braun XT5 for example is significantly more powerful than the Intimate and mows through thick pubic hair faster.

The Braun Series XT5.

Using the Braun, I could get away with moving the head quicker and using longer strokes, reducing the time it took to complete the trim.

The closeness is somewhat similar, maybe with the slightest advantage for the XT5 as that one also has a foil element sandwiched between the two trimming blades.

That said, the OneBlade Intimate is smaller, lighter and the shaving head is noticeably nimbler.

Trimming tricky areas like the crease of the leg/groin takes more work with the Braun XT5.

The Philips Norelco Bodygroom 1100 would actually be my favorite compact groomer for trimming pubic hair (if not for its durability issues).

Philips Norelco Bodygroom 1100.

It’s also significantly more powerful than the OneBlade Intimate, it cuts the hair a bit closer, and it’s just as nimble.

It can sometimes clog, and you’ll have to stop and remove the hairs. But the Bodygroom 1100 is probably the most enjoyable and effective compact groomer for trimming pubic hair.

It is unfortunately let down by the very brittle guards (I’ve managed to break two of them), rendering it useless. Therefore, I cannot recommend it.

So overall, I’d pick the Braun XT5 over the OneBlade Intimate and Norelco 1100; while not quite as nimble, it’s the most powerful and comes with more guards.

I also have to make a case for the other (non-Intimate) OneBlade variations: Face+Body, 360, etc.

As I mentioned earlier, those are more powerful than the Intimate, and you can simply buy and use the Skin Protect head from the Intimate.

OneBlade Face+Body and the Skin Protect blade.

I did just that, and the performance of this Frankenstein OneBlade was clearly better: faster, more forgiving and even a bit closer than the OneBlade Intimate.

This difference was particularly obvious when trimming pubic hair and less so on the rest of the body.

Armpits

Trimming armpit hair with the Norelco OneBlade Intimate is effortless and comfortable.

When dealing with thin body hair, this groomer is just a joy to use.

It’s effective with few strokes, and while it doesn’t cut the hair super close, it’s easily close enough.

The best part is just how easy and maneuverable it is. The ergonomics are just unbeatable.

Trimming body hair (arms, legs, abs)

The OneBlade Intimate only comes with a 3mm guard in addition to the Skin Protect head that cuts the hair (almost) at skin level.

I think most men (myself included) would also prefer a larger guard. For example, I like the hair on my legs a bit longer.

The Braun XT5 for example is a compact groomer that offers a 5mm guard as well.

Trimming body hair with the OneBlade Intimate and the 3mm attachment is somewhat limited by the sluggish motor.

The Norelco OneBlade Intimate with the 3mm guard.

It’s not as noticeable as when trimming the pubic area, but if you have a lot of body hair, it will probably struggle a bit.

On my forearms and abs it was mostly fine, but on my legs, which are very hairy, it took more work to get it done.

Some hairs were left behind and needed more passes. Also, the longer the hair, the more you’ll feel the groomer struggling.

On the bright side, I like that the OneBlade Intimate doesn’t clog and you can just quickly blow over the blade and carry on.

Again, I have to mention the powerful Braun XT5 that is just in a different league among the other compact groomers.

Braun Series XT5 held in hand.

You can even move the head faster, and despite that, fewer hairs will be left uncut.

Also, with the OneBlade Intimate, you only get a 3mm guard. For me, that is fine above the waist, but I would have liked a larger guard for my legs.

A non-Intimate OneBlade trimmer can, on the other hand, include an adjustable beard guard (1–5mm) that can also be used for body hair.

Battery life and charging

With the Intimate’s compact form factor, Philips could only fit the smallest battery of any current OneBlade variation.

As such, it can only provide around 30 minutes of cordless use.

The typical OneBlade trimmer offers between 45 and 90 minutes (most of them 60 minutes).

Moreover, the OneBlade Intimate has a NiMH battery, meaning the charging time is very long (around 8 hours from 0 to full).

Charging the OneBlade Intimate.

A OneBlade Face+Body/360 for example needs less than 4 hours to fully charge, and its Li-ion battery can provide around 60 minutes of cordless operation.

In my opinion, Philips made a rather significant compromise with the battery of the OneBlade Intimate.

The size and price constraints meant going for a small, older type of battery.

One other gripe I have (not specific to the Intimate) is Norelco’s continuous use of their proprietary charging port.

The Philips charge port on the Intimate.

One would expect a small travel-friendly groomer to feature USB-C, especially since it takes up little space and there’s no need for high voltage or current to charge it.

But no, the OneBlade Intimate still features the Philips port and the companion Philips-to-USB-A cable.

And it’s a lot less practical, and one more thing you can misplace or leave behind.

Overall, 30 minutes is in my opinion not enough for a relaxed full-body trimming session, especially if you have denser body hair, as the sluggish OneBlade Intimate would struggle and need multiple passes.

And if you run out of battery mid-session, charging would take around 8 hours.

If we put everything into perspective, a non-Intimate OneBlade variation starts to make a whole lot more sense.

Double the battery life, 2 times shorter charging time, more power, more accessories for only slightly more money.

In the Alternatives section, I will share my pick for the OneBlade variation that would make the most sense as a replacement for the Intimate.

Cleaning and maintenance

Being a basic and waterproof trimmer, the OneBlade Intimate is super easy to clean.

A quick rinse with slightly warm tap water is all it takes.

Cleaning the groomer with water.

Just make sure to remove any guards/attachments before rinsing, including the Skin Protect (and wash those as well).

You can even take out the head and remove the clipped hairs around the fitting.

After rinsing everything clean, shake off the excess water and let all the parts air dry before storing the groomer.

Replacement parts

The Norelco OneBlade Intimate uses a typical OneBlade head with a Skin Protect guard fitted to it.

They are available globally and come in (at least) a two-pack variation.

Philips calls them Skin Protect Replacement Blades, part number QP229/80.

QP229 Skin protect blades.

Check Latest Price

The price is reasonable, but sometimes a bit higher compared to a OneBlade 360 2-pack, which is a bit odd.

You can of course buy and use those and simply use your old Skin Protect attachments over the blade.

Philips says the heads will last for 4 months if you use the groomer twice a week.

Obviously, these claims are often irrelevant and far from real-world use cases.

In other words, how often you will need to buy new heads for your OneBlade Intimate will vary a lot, depending mostly on your body hair density/coarseness and how often you use the groomer.

The best part is however that the blades are very easy to source, which is not always the case with other inexpensive and small groomers.

Takeaway: Should you buy the Philips OneBlade Intimate?

Since its initial launch a couple of years ago, the OneBlade Intimate has been a massive commercial success.

It’s one of the most popular compact groomers in 2026 and the reasons are the very reasonable price, compact and lightweight body, and the decent performance.

That said, if you’re willing to spend a bit more and deal with a bit of extra weight, I think there are a couple of better options out there.

The short battery life, long charging times, and lack of larger guards can be deal-breakers for some users.

Nowadays, I mostly use mine for quick touch-ups, even when I travel, and I can simply toss it into my toiletry bag as it takes up almost no space.

A better battery and USB-C charging would have been a game changer.

Alternatives

1. Philips OneBlade 360 Face + Body (QP2834/70)

Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 QP2834.

See the price on Amazon

As hinted throughout the review, I consider the normal (non-Intimate) Philips OneBlade to be an objectively better body groomer than the OneBlade Intimate.

Over the past few years, the OneBlade lineup has expanded massively, and the weight, features, and prices vary a lot.

But if we’re talking strictly about an alternative to the Intimate, my pick would be the QP2834/70 (Face + Body).

It costs only a bit more, but has double the battery life (60 minutes), it takes less than half the time to charge the Li-ion battery, it’s more powerful and has more useful attachments.

It includes a Skin Guard element that does pretty much the same thing as the Intimate’s Skin Protect, but on top of that, we have a fixed 3mm guard (again the same as you get with the Intimate) plus an adjustable beard guard (1–5mm).

The latter also works fine on body hair, so it can be used if you prefer a different hair length.

The groomer itself is only slightly heavier and thicker, but in my opinion, what you’re getting is definitely worth the extra weight.

The performance upgrade is especially noticeable when trimming thicker body hair and also makes the groomer more forgiving.

2. Braun Series XT5

Braun Series XT5.

See the price on Amazon

Finally, we have the Braun XT5, which is in my opinion a lot more capable and one of the best options out there for a compact body + face groomer.

Its main pro over any Philips OneBlade is the foil + blades head.

As you can see, apart from the OneBlade-style dual-blade setup, we have a foil element that can cut hair at skin level.

Closeup of the Braun XT5 head that uses a foil element and a pair of shearing blades.
Closeup of the Braun XT5 head (foil element and a pair of shearing blades).

This allows it to cut hair closer to the skin.

If you want more length, it comes with various combs for body and face trimming.

Moreover, it’s even more powerful than the QP2834/70 OneBlade.

Unfortunately, Braun seems to have stopped selling the XT5 in the USA.

In Europe, it’s still readily available, and the price is reasonable as well.

If you’re in the USA and you can’t buy it, the OneBlade QP2834/70 above would be the next best thing.

This concludes my review of the Philips (Norelco) OneBlade Intimate.
